Permanent Capital · Owner-Operator

We build enduring companies in regulated, essential markets.

Headwest launches and grows software-enabled businesses where complex workflows, fragmented distribution, and recurring customer needs create room for a trusted category leader.

Each company benefits from shared technology, distribution, data, talent, and operating expertise.

The Firm

One operating system. Multiple vertical companies.

Headwest is a permanent-capital company builder. We identify high-friction markets, build the customer workflow, earn differentiated distribution, and use the resulting data to improve decisions and economics over time.

We build alongside exceptional operators and hold exceptional businesses for the long term.

Permanent capital. Flexible structures. No forced exit clock.

Long-Duration Capital

Founder and aligned capital without a predetermined exit deadline.

Owner-Operator Model

Meaningful ownership, direct operating involvement, and accountability for results.

Compounding Capabilities

Shared technology, distribution, data, recruiting, finance, and operating infrastructure.

Our First Company

Gatby rebuilt a high-friction electricity decision around the customer.

Gatby is a transparent marketplace and enrollment platform that helps households navigate a fragmented, regulated electricity market.

Headwest built Gatby by combining:

  • Integrated institutional distribution
  • Purpose-built customer software
  • Supplier and market infrastructure
  • Transaction-level operating data
  • High-touch customer support

The same operating logic informs where Headwest builds next.

Areas Under Development

Early operating concepts — not yet established companies.

In development

Legal Services

Building a more transparent, data-informed workflow connecting clients, attorneys, and capital in a fragmented legal market.

In development

Insurance & Retirement

Exploring software, distribution, and data infrastructure for complex insurance and retirement-income decisions.

Where We Build

Markets where operating depth becomes an advantage.

We focus on essential markets where better software, trusted distribution, and accumulated data can create a durable category leader.

01

Essential

Recurring needs, not discretionary wants

Customers must complete the transaction regardless of the economic cycle.

02

Fragmented

No trusted default

Customers face many providers, inconsistent information, and a difficult decision process.

03

Complex

Regulation and workflow create barriers

Compliance, approvals, documentation, and specialized processes reward operating depth.

04

Distribution-Driven

Trusted channels shape customer access

Partnerships and embedded workflows can produce efficient, defensible distribution.

05

Software-Enabled

Manual work can become infrastructure

Quoting, routing, forms, payments, support, and reconciliation can be standardized.

06

Data-Compounding

Every transaction improves the system

Structured outcomes improve matching, pricing, service, risk decisions, and capital allocation.

How We Build

From market friction to compounding infrastructure.

1

Find the Friction

Identify an essential market where customers face complexity, opacity, or misaligned incentives.

2

Build the Workflow

Combine software, operations, compliance, support, and payments into one reliable customer journey.

3

Earn Distribution

Partner with institutions and trusted channels already present at the moment of customer need.

4

Capture Structured Data

Turn each transaction into better information about demand, outcomes, pricing, and operations.

5

Reinvest the Advantage

Use accumulated software, talent, data, distribution, and cash flow to strengthen the company and pursue adjacent opportunities.

Our Capital

Structured around the business — not a fund deadline.

Headwest invests from a long-duration capital base. That allows us to build through cycles, reinvest cash flow, and hold exceptional businesses as long as continued ownership remains attractive.

Patient

No predetermined exit window or pressure to sell solely because a fund is ending.

Flexible

Structures are designed around the company, its operators, and the opportunity.

Aligned

We invest meaningful internal capital and focus on long-term value per share.

We evaluate opportunities based on strategic fit and risk-adjusted potential rather than a fixed fund mandate.

Flexible transaction sizing
Our Team

Operators building alongside operators.

Headwest was created by operators with experience building companies and investing inside complex, regulated markets.
